Stoic vs Leeway

Stoic is a guided journal app built around a morning plan and an evening reflection, with prompts, mood trends and an optional AI plan. Leeway is new and about to launch on iPhone: you answer one evening question out loud, see reserve and load, and keep one small step for tomorrow. Leeway is not released yet.

Stoic is an established journaling app, and its name is easy to mistake for a philosophy tool. It is a full journaling app with guided prompts, mood tracking and a daily routine. Leeway is a new app, about to launch on iPhone, that replaces the routine with a single question you answer aloud.

We make Leeway, and this page is written with that in mind. What follows about Stoic comes from its website, its help center and its US App Store page, read on October 17, 2026. Leeway is not released yet, opens soon on iPhone, and has no date or price announced.

If you like structure, a library of prompts and a toolbox of small exercises, Stoic offers a lot today. If what you want is to say how the day went and be told what you seem to be carrying, that is a different, smaller promise, and the one Leeway is built on.

Where Stoic is strong

  • A daily frame: a morning preparation and an evening reflection, which gives a clear start and end to the day.
  • A large prompt library: daily prompts, guided journals and templates covering many themes, so there is always something to answer.
  • Mood and habit tracking, with trends that chart mood, emotions, sleep, health and writing, and a link to the Health app for mindful minutes and sleep.
  • Extra tools in the same app: meditations, breathing exercises, quotes and affirmations, and an option to block distracting apps.
  • Broad reach: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Android and the web, with iCloud sync across Apple devices and a free tier to start with. Its help center says the iOS and Android versions do not sync with each other yet.

What to keep in mind about Stoic

  • Writing and prompts are the main path. Its App Store page says voice notes are an option for people who do not like writing.
  • Its AI features are on a separate Premium AI plan, with reflections and analysis built from what you write.
  • Its site does not state prices. Its App Store page lists in-app purchases from $6.99 to $299.00, including lifetime options and a separate AI plan, without naming the billing period, so the cost depends on the plan you pick.
  • Moods are tracked by you, and its pages do not describe naming a feeling from your voice or two measures such as reserve and load.

Where Leeway is different

One spoken question, not a routine to follow

Stoic gives you a morning plan, an evening reflection, prompts and exercises, which is helpful when you want structure. Leeway is narrower. There is one evening question, answered out loud in a couple of minutes, and then you are done.

Naming comes from what you say

In Stoic you record your mood yourself, with help from the prompts. In Leeway, an AI names the emotion it finds in your voice and your words, and you can correct it. That is useful on evenings when you cannot tell what you feel.

Two measures that move from one night to the next

Stoic's trends chart things like mood, sleep and writing. Leeway follows your emotional reserve, the room you have left, and your mental load, what is still turning. When a few weeks of entries exist, Patterns shows what weighs on you and what helps, and says plainly when it cannot tell yet.

One step for tomorrow, chosen from your own words

Stoic's morning planner is a space you fill in. Leeway fills it with one small step for tomorrow, based on what you said the night before. Try it, swap it or set it aside. It waits for you in the morning.
